Tracy Wood Clemons
Tracy Clemons is the folk artist of the bespoke puzzle box world. Her puzzles are often large and incorporate warms woods like Mahogany which can lend them a rustic feel. However, don’t be fooled - these are not simple, folksy puzzle boxes. Tracy has a crafty and clever mind, and makes deceptively challenging puzzle boxes full of fun and whimsey. Her puzzles are instantly recognizable and are not to be missed.
“Come Fairies, take me out of this dull world, for I would ride with you upon the wind and dance upon the mountains like a flame!” - William Butler Yeats
It’s been a while since I featured something from Tracy Wood Clemons, an American woodworker who, when asked how she became so talented at designing intricate and complex wooden puzzle boxes, can honestly say, “well, that’s my middle name, after all”.
I’ve been meaning to feature this little box for a while, as a way to say thanks. The box in turn was a thank you gift from the maker, Tracy Clemons, who sent it as a companion piece to the original “Writer’s Block”.
You’ll have to excuse me for a moment. It’s rather urgent, and there’s really nothing I can do about it at this point. It’s just a fact of life, after all. I know there are plenty of you out there who will understand. Someone who I know for sure will understand is Tracy Wood Clemons, who created the “A Man’s Got To Go!” box.
At the risk of becoming boxed in, I present a box which turns things inside out for me, as I find myself inside of it. The creative woodworker Tracy Woods Clemons, from Rochester, New York, has been making her designs in wood for many years.
Bram’s Stoker’s classic horror story about the undead ghoul with a serious blood lust, published in 1897, was inspired by a history of Wallachia, a region in what is now modern day Transylvania, and one of its most famous rulers, Vlad the Impaler - better known as Dracula.
